The Pronunciation: Acai (ah-see-iy) Berries

The Look: A small round grape like fruit that is 1 inch in diameter. The colour is dark purple, almost black.

The origin: The fruit comes from the Acai palm, which is a tall skinny palm tree that grows as tall as 15-30 meters and bares leaves or branches that extend up to 3 meters in length. The berries grow in abundant numbers ranging from 500-800 in a cluster.  These trees are indigenous to central and south America however more prominent in the Amazon jungle.

The inside: ¾ of the fruit is seed and the remainder is pulp

The Acai berry is considered as a superfood because it contains many healthy properties.  The pulp of the berry contains a unique concentration of saturated and unsaturated fats that are unlike any other fruit.
